Sacred Symphony: Devotee and Deity
n Hinduism, the concept of an iñöa devatä plays a significant role
Iin a seeker’s spiritual journey. This intensely personal and
evolving relationship with the chosen deity is nurtured through
stories, devotion, japa, prayer, and meditation. The beauty of our
religion lies in its inclusivity – we may have a preferred image,
yet we celebrate, revere, and pray to all, knowing that each is a
manifestation of the Supreme. This approach encourages unity
and humility, reminding us that the Absolute is limitless and
beyond form.
In the ninth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavan assures,
“O Arjuna, know for certain: My devotee shall never perish.”
1
Likewise, Shri Ramachandra proclaims, “My vow is to remove the
fears of those who take refuge in Me.”
2
However, as sincere seekers, we must continuously evaluate
our spiritual journey – reflecting, introspecting, and asking
ourselves: Would Bhagavan acknowledge us as His devotees?
Have we truly surrendered to Him? Are we content with just
routine chanting and rituals? Is our relationship with Bhagavan
stagnant, or is it growing stronger daily?
Consider Shri Rama – do we uphold His ideals of dharma,
discipline, and duty? Do we possess the courage and selflessness
of Jatayu or the steadfast faith and patience of Shabari? Above all,
are we ideal bhaktas like Hanumanji, committed to serving with
humility, unwavering loyalty, and single-minded devotion?
Is Bhagavan enshrined in our hearts, shaping every action and
decision we make? Do we accept every situation – ‘conducive’
or ‘unconducive’ – as His will? Do we see His presence in
all beings?
May the auspicious month of April deepen our dedication
to Bhagavan and His superlative devotee, Shri Hanuman.
Wishing our readers a sublime Ramanavami and
a blessed Hanuman Jayanti.
