       SWAMI TEJOMAYANANDA

n the mantra we were discussing, the word ‘åtasad’ means that
IParamätmä abides in åtam. The word åtam has two meanings –
truth (satya) and yajïa. The Upanishads also proclaim satyam-äyatanam
       – it is the abode of brahma-vidyä. If you want to know the paraà satyam,
your life also has to be truthful. When we hear the word ‘yajïa’
we think of a fire ritual. That is, of course, the literal meaning.
However, in the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagavan Sri Krishna has said
that performance of one’s own duties as worship of God, without
any attachment to the results of such actions, becomes a yajïa
in itself. And he says that in such a yajïa, the all-pervading
brahman ever resides: sarvagataà brahma nityaà yajïe pratiñöhitam.
                                                                   1
So, in short, the mantra says that Bhagavan’s presence is not
only in one particular body but in all bodies, all things of the Earth
and in all celestial bodies too. The term åtam båhat means that
He remains in his own glory, present in and through everything, yet
       untouched by all the upädhis.
Let us proceed further. Nachiketa had asked Dharmaräjä whether
there is anything after death, since people have many doubts
about it. And Dharmaräjä had said very clearly that there is a

yours shall be the daily experience
of the blessings of the Lord even
                                         in your simple domestic life.
