it the other way, it becomes räkñasa. An educated man, behaving as
though uneducated, becomes a devil incarnate in society –
incorrigibly vulgar. Yet, he is still an educated man. But what
use is it?
Ravana was highly educated, knew all the Vedas and was a
great devotee of Lord Siva, with the willpower to compel even
the Lord to appear. And yet, he conducted himself in the world
as though he were illiterate – wild and barbarous. Once, there
was only one Ravana in Lanka, with a handful of followers.
Today, we have 700 million behaving like räkñasas in this
country – seven hundred million educated people, acting as though
education has no place in their lives. Think!
This räkñasika and äsurika attitude arises when the mind is
shattered and confused – räkñaséà äsuréà caiva prakåtià mohinéà
çritäù. Under the compulsion of väsanäs, one begins to express
them, living as if the intellect were absent, no better than any
