but he also has a private eye, through which, even while seeing
the world of plurality, he recognizes the striking beauty of the
Lord of the universe, who is the substratum of the whole universe.
Ecstasy of Bliss
In blissful meditation, Siva gets up and dances. When humans
feel overwhelming happiness, they instinctively dance. When you
suddenly receive good news you had no hope of receiving, you jump
and hit the ceiling with a sudden influx of joy. Extreme joy comes
into your mind, and you dance.
Siva’s dance of
ecstasy is the täëòava
nåtya. But as He
dances, He recognizes
the deceptive world
of names and forms,
the devils that once
trapped Him. He
opens His third eye,
looks in all directions
– west, east, north,
south, right, and
left – and burns
away the illusions
of plurality. He
recognizes the infinite
Self everywhere.
Everything is reduced to ashes, yet Siva doesn’t destroy the
mind, because the mind and intellect are the tools through
which a seeker learns the scriptures and understands the words of
his Teachers. A mind trained and purified through yoga will not
dare to captivate you again. With that pure mind, the Master
serves the world.
Think about it. When you apply the vibhüti, remember that
it symbolizes the destruction of old tendencies that you have
burnt down in your new understanding and knowledge.
