was born as his son, but
he wanted to go away and
meditate! Bhagavan Kapila
also guided and blessed him,
saying, “Go and meditate,
and abide in your true Self.”
So, along with ‘being’ and
‘knowing’, ‘abidance in the
Self’ is also very important.
The practical implication
of this knowledge is that
we become fearless. We can
see a glimpse of such fearlessness in our Parama Guru Swami
Tapovanji Maharaj when Pujya Gurudev wanted to take him to
Delhi for treatment. Tapovanji Maharaj asked, “Why? Do people
not die in Delhi?” The body is born, and it will die when the time
comes. But I was neither born nor will I ever die! Our Pujya
Gurudev’s fearlessness also reflects his abidance in the unborn Self.
That which is born, changes, and dies is an object of the
world. When I know from the scriptures that I am the unborn Self,
I do not remain an object of the world. This clear experience is
visible in Pujya Gurudev’s well-known quote, “Live in the world,
but never be ‘of’ the world.”
Thus, when we chant and contemplate this name with regular
and sincere upäsanä (worship), we slowly rise to that level and
remain unaffected by the ever-changing world. We realize our
own unborn, true Identity.
Vitamins cannot give health by
themselves; our mental attitude
in life is the real health.
