Bhakti: Love that

       Liberates – 2

       SWAMI TEJOMAYANANDA

hapter Ten of the Bhagavad Gita contains some exquisite
Cçlokas on devotion and devotees. Shri Krishna declares that
He blesses with knowledge those who are devoted to Him.
             mac-cittä mad-gata-präëä bodhayantaù parasparam,

kathayantaç-ca mäà nityaà tuñyanti ca ramanti ca. 1
With their minds wholly resting in Me, with their senses
absorbed in Me, enlightening one another, and ever speaking of
Me, they are satisfied and delighted.
        Absorbed in the Beloved Lord

Bhagavan blesses those bhaktas whose chitta rests only in Him –
mat-chittäù. In Vedanta, chitta is smaraëätmikä våtti – the faculty
of memory. Thus, mat-chittäù refers to those who constantly
        remember the Lord.
Everyone knows from experience that we frequently
remember those whom we love. Parents whose children live
abroad or away from them often think of them. Each time they
eat a special dish, they recall, “Oh, my son or daughter likes this so
much!” Anything we see or any incident reminds us of the person
        we love.
There is an enchanting story about the gopékäs of Brindavan.
They loved Shri Krishna’s madhura rüpa – they did not meditate
        upon Bhagavan’s nirguëa rüpa.
