One day, Narada Muni was passing through Gokul and noticed
a gopé sitting in meditation with her eyes closed. He was surprised –
a gopé sitting in meditation! How could that be? After some
time, she opened her eyes, threw up her hands in despair, and
muttered, “No use, no use at all!”

Naradaji enquired, “O Gopé, what is of no use at all? What are
        you talking about?”
“I am trying to take my mind away from Krishna,” replied
        the exasperated gopé.
In sharp contrast, we throw up our hands after a few minutes
of meditation – our mind refuses to remain with the Lord.
Here was a gopé who could think of nothing but Krishna – her
mind was totally absorbed in Bhagavan. When the sage asked
her why she was attempting to take her mind away from the
Lord, she replied, “I cannot do any other work. My mind is
        always thinking of Krishna!”

Mad-gata-präëäù is a beautiful expression that describes the
                         2
state of a devotee who remembers the Lord in and through
every breath. For such bhaktas, Bhagavan is their präëa ädhära
