prefer to see them as extraordinary, but they enter this world as
ordinary children – just like all of us. Every child is born crying.
We cry when we come into this world – and so did they.
kabérä jaba hama paidä hue jaga haðse hama roye,
aisé karané kara calo hama haðse jaga roye.
When I was born, the world rejoiced while I wept. Let me
live in such a way that when I die, I smile – and the world mourns.
We all enter this world crying. The question is: how do we
live so that by the end of our lives, we leave smiling – content,
fulfilled, joyful – while the world around us feels our absence
deeply? It’s not about making others weep; it’s about living
with such love, purpose, and grace that our departure leaves
behind a longing, a legacy, and a reverence.
Kabir reminded us that while we begin life in tears, we
should strive to live in a way that we leave it smiling, our hearts full,
and our journey complete. That is true greatness. And it is fitting
that the name Kabir means ‘the great one.’
This reflection brings to mind my experience during a camp
in Sidhbari. I was attending a jïäna yajïa led by Pujya Gurudev.
During the event, a few of the organizers sat with Gurudev,
discussing how – despite the thousands who attended his
discourses on Atma Bodha – many still needed coaxing to come
and listen. Some, unfortunately, found reasons to miss this
rare chance to sit at the feet of a true Master.
They spoke of the immense privilege of gaining such
knowledge, being in the presence of wisdom incarnate, and
