The Master Who Made Every Second Sacred
ur cover shows Pujya Gurudev expressing childlike delight
Oon receiving a letter from a seeker. In that joy, in that instant,
we glimpse his connection with the writer – his boundless
patience, compassion, and love.
For him, Vedanta was alive – sparkling with humour and
insight. Through stories, sharp observations, and piercing words,
he made the highest truths accessible to all. We laughed – and
reflected; we listened – and were subtly transformed. At the
same time, there was discipline. Time was sacred. His insistence
on punctuality was about respect – for the Teacher, the audience,
and, above all, reverence for the knowledge being imparted.
Even today, this remains a hallmark of all our Mission programs
worldwide.
Perhaps one of his most beautiful teachings lay in his example
of alertness and meticulousness. No word was meaningless, no
task was small, no action insignificant. Whether addressing
thousands, folding a letter, or pasting a small stamp, the same
care remained – complete attention, total devotion. This perfection
arose from a vision that saw the Lord in all. During his Gita talks
in Piercy, he said: “My beloved Lord who is in my heart is the
same Lord that is beating in every one of you. So, all of you are
different forms of my beloved Lord. I am telling the glories of the
Lord to the Lord Himself.” 1
Pujya Gurudev showed us how to live Vedanta with every
breath, through every facet of his personality. He showed us
how to speak, how to act, how to care. He showed us how
to make every moment meaningful – how to make
every moment a sacred offering unto the Divine.
