P. 2
The eighteen chapters of the Gita guide us from weakness and
despondency to strength and victory, just as they did for Arjuna.
The Mahabharata War arose from the blind King Dhritarashtra’s
deep attachment to his son, Duryodhana. Sanjaya narrates to
Dhritarashtra all that transpired on the battlefield.
The salient teachings of Shri Krishna are:
v There is no cause for grieving over anyone or anything –
whether living or dead.
v Arjuna’s problem stems from his ego-centric identity. He
must realize his true, immortal Nature.
v The performance of one’s duty is of utmost importance. Even
the physical body cannot be maintained without action.
v Actions performed in the spirit of yajïa do not bind the
individual; instead, they lead to liberation.
v There was a great succession of Gurus and disciples who
preserved this sacred knowledge. Though lost for a time,
Bhagavan revived it once again.
v One must uplift oneself through one’s own efforts. No one
else is truly one’s friend or enemy.
v Seekers of this supreme knowledge are rare. Only a few truly
attain it in its essence.
v Rise above the impurities of the mind with the help of the
scriptures.
