Transforming Power
Karma becomes Karma Yoga only when it is dedicated to God;
otherwise, it remains mere karma – just an action. It is the element
of devotion alone that transforms karma into Karma Yoga.
Everything is transformed by devotion. Jïäna becomes Jïäna
Yoga when it is sweetened with devotion. Though knowledge is, in
truth, superb, sweet, and juicy, many consider it dry and dreary.
Meditation makes people yawn. Therefore, whether it is karma,
jïäna, or dhyäna, it is the element of love that makes them beautiful.
In daily life, we are familiar with expressions such as “He
is devoted to his profession” or “She is very dedicated to her
work.” The components of devotion are unconditional love, total
trust, and reverence. It is the highest form of love.
Many a time we may love someone yet not trust that
person; at other times we may trust someone yet not truly love
him/her. When love, trust, and reverence come together
unconditionally, the delightful expression that arises is devotion.

When devotion is directed towards God – the Self of all beings –
it becomes impossible to hate the world, for He is the very Truth,
the very substratum of the universe.
Devotion purifies the mind. All sorrows arise from the
impurities of the mind. Yet, if we try to eliminate these impurities
one by one, the task becomes herculean. Just as a spoonful of salt
in a small glass of water makes it unbearably salty, but the same
Having realized the Self, a saint
LALITHA CHARITABLE thereafter lives, “Sporting with
the Self, revelling with the Self,
TRUST and ever in the service of the
Secunderabad world.”
